Security is crucial to cryptocurrency trading. Use the FGS platform and funds from your FGS account to trade cryptocurrencies at Paxos Trust Company, which employs military-grade security to protect your crypto assets. Paxos Trust Company is regulated and supervised by the New York Department of Financial Services (the New York bank regulator), and by the US Treasury’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
Log in to Client Portal and request Cryptocurrency trading permission via the Settings > Account Settings > Trading Experience & Permissions menu item. Trading permission requests are typically approved overnight.
Before you can trade cryptocurrencies, you need to log into Client Portal and request "United States - Crypto Currencies" trading permissions. Once trading permissions are established, you trade cryptocurrencies in the same way that you trade other products. Search for the symbol and open it in Quote Details or add it to your Watchlist. Select the symbol to trade, then complete the available parameters to create and then submit the order.

This means to trade crypto, you must become a client of Paxos. When clients request the cryptocurrency trading permission in Client Portal, they agree to permit FGS to provide their information to Paxos in order to apply for an account at Paxos in their name, and they are required to sign Paxos’ Customer Terms & Conditions. Clients must also sign a supplement to the FGS Client Agreement which authorizes and instructs FGS to engage in certain cashiering activities in their FGS brokerage account to (i) withdraw US dollars from their brokerage account and transfer them to their account at Paxos to pay for crypto purchased and (ii) to sweep proceeds of sales of crypto at Paxos out of their account at Paxos and into their brokerage account at FGS . Crypto trading permissions are enabled once a supplement to the FGS Customer Agreement is signed and the FGS client is approved as a Paxos client.
Once enabled, FGS clients can trade crypto in their Paxos account using the FGS trading platforms. When clients trade crypto through the FGS platform, although FGS acts as your cashiering agent, FGS has no custody or control over the crypto assets you hold in your account at Paxos. All crypto transactions occur on the Paxos exchange. Paxos is your custodian for all crypto assets, and none of the legal protections associated with your securities account at FGS (such as insurance under the Securities Investor Protection Act) apply to those crypto assets.
By supporting crypto trading through FGS’s platform in conjunction with Paxos, FGS provides its clients the convenience of centralized cash management and a single user interface that shows both their IBLLC-carried securities & commodities positions and their Paxos-carried crypto positions.
To comply with all relevant regulatory requirements and to avoid any client confusion, FGS keeps the distinction between activities and positions at FGS and activities and positions with Paxos very clear throughout all of the trading platforms. This may include the presentation of symbols indicating an asset is held at Paxos, headers, footers, pop-ups, and other such notices.
